Go vote and help fight hunger

You can help judge the winner in the Jackson County United Way Volunteer Center Build A Meal contest and help fight hunger at the same time.

You donate $1 or one food item per vote for any of the food structures built by local groups and businesses. Proceeds benefit Anchor House, Community Provisions and Human Services Inc. food pantries in Jackson County.

Your votes will help determine which food sculpture wins the People’s Choice award.

The food sculptures are on display Friday and Saturday in the old Wallpaper Place building on Tipton Street, adjacent to Peace Lutheran Church at Tipton and Walnut streets.

You should check them out. People put a lot of work and thought into the sculptures.

I had a look at them Wednesday as part of a panel of judges.

Don’t ask me to spill the beans, whether they be black, green or chili, all of which were used in several of the sculptures. I don’t know who won the judged categories, and I wouldn’t tell even if I did know.

Hours for voting are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday. The winners will be announced Saturday at the Seymour Main Street Lawn, Garden and Patio Show downtown.

Reporter Katie Rose Beck will have more information and photos in a story in Friday’s edition of The Tribune and online at TribTown.com.

Thanks for reading my blog, and thanks for logging on to TribTown.com.
